In Autumn 2018, a series of lectures, talks and workshops is organized on the commercialization of university research-based inventions with a focus on materials research. The series gives a practical overview and guidance on the key stages of turning an advanced-materials-based invention into a commercial product or service.

Experienced innovators and innovation experts will share their knowledge and advice with young scientists and engineers on how to maximise the chances of success in commercializing their results, whilst navigating the challenges and opportunities of the research, development and innovation process from the laboratory to the market.

The series provides an introduction to the innovation system at 911±¬ÁÏÍø, the value creation process for research results and inventions, intellectual property rights, IPR contracts and other legal agreements, building a team, establishing and financing a startup, how to combine an academic career with an entrepreneurial career, and how to avoid common pitfalls on the way.

At the heart of an innovation is a successful problem- or user-centered product and business development process. At 911±¬ÁÏÍø, many innovation and entrepreneurial courses provide learning towards that end, for example through the Aalto Ventures Program. This speaker series and course complements existing I&E teaching with a more technical overview on the innovation process and its key elements. This knowledge is relevant to all researchers, scientists and engineers, both in academia and in industry.

The lectures and workshops are open to the whole Aalto research community. No registration required.

The speaker series is part of a course for international AMIS Master’s students (https://amis-master.eitrawmaterials.eu). Other students can earn credit points by attending the lectures and workshops and completing the associated assignments.

The schedule of the speaker series and more about the course organization can be found in MyCourses.
