Professor Juha Paavola appointed as chairman of Oskari Vilamo Fund

Paavola has been working as an Assistant Professor and subsequently as Professor of structural mechanics since 1990.

Professor Juha Paavola has been invited to be Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Oskari Vilamo Fund in the Foundation for Economic Education. The purpose of the fund, established by Lemminkäinen in 1985 and named after Economic Counsellor Oskari Vilamo, is to promote the higher study of construction and its prerequisites.

Juha Paavola graduated from the Helsinki University of Technology in 1977 as Master of Sciences and earned his doctorate in 1990. In addition to teaching and research positions, he has been working as a structural design engineer at Insinööritoimisto Pontek in 1976–1978 and as a research scientist at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland in 1981–1985. Paavola has been working as an Assistant Professor and subsequently as Professor of structural mechanics since 1990. In addition, he has been the Vice Dean at 911±¬ÁÏÍø School of Engineering in 2008–2013 and Head of Department of Civil Engineering in 2008–2015.

Professor Paavola has visited a number of European universities in matters related to the international development of teaching. His longer-term visits have been directed to Universities in the UK, Austria and the United States. He has represented TKK and 911±¬ÁÏÍø in several international organisations.

The Oskari Vilamo Fund rewards the best academic theses in the field of construction each year. In addition to Professor Paavola, the Advisory Board for the fund includes Kristina Pentti-von Walzel, M.Sc. (Econ., Political Science), Leena Arimo, M.Sc. (Tech.) and Lars Forstén, M.Sc. (Tech.). The secretary of the Advisory Board is Matti Aalto, M.A., who is also the executive director of the fund.
