The Department of Applied Physics has announced an upcoming series of events providing career development for researchers and keeping alumni current with the department's areas of expertise.

Four events are planned for 2017 that will feature PHYS alumni and their stories.

  • Academic Career Paths (setting personal objectives and creating a timeline for academic job advancement) for postdocs and doctoral students in June
  • Outside the Academy (preparing for a job in industry or government) for Master's/doctoral students and postdocs in August
  • Futures for Physicists (possible careers for people studying physics now) for everyone in September
  • Physicists and Industry Matchmaking Event (concrete industry problems and research solutions) for problem solvers in research and industry in late 2017

'The goal of the series is clear: to connect PHYS alumni with current students and researchers and vice versa - something that will benefit everyone',  says Head of Department Matti Kaivola.

Through success stories, tips, and problem-solving, these peer-led discussions and presentations provide opportunities for PHYS graduates to tap into the experiences of the department's former members. Alumni working in companies will have a chance to meet the next generation of experts and see what unfolds.

More information about the series will be announced throughout the year.

If you are a PHYS alumnus or an industry/government representative who would like to participate, please contact communications-phys@aalto.fi.
