Over 4000 applications to 911±¬ÁÏ꿉۪s English-language programmes

Applicants were interested in bachelor’s programmes taught in English.

The application period to 911±¬ÁÏ꿉۪s master’s programmes and the national Joint Application’s English-language bachelor’s programmes ended on 24 January 2018. A total of 2809 applications to master’s programmes were received, whereas the number of applications in the previous year was 2762. 12 percent or 330 applicants were other than Finnish EU/EEA citizens. 43 percent of the applicants were Finnish nationals.

English-language bachelor’s programmes were offered in the fields of business and economics as well as science and technology. Altogether 760 applications were received to the Bachelor’s Programme in International Business at the Mikkeli Campus by the deadline – 6 percent more than in the previous application round. Approximately 37 percent of the applicants were nationals of countries outside the EU/EEA, whereas the same percentage was 25 in the previous year. 59 percent of the applicants were Finnish nationals. Applications were received from 69 countries. It is still possible to apply to the programme via the Open University route or a transfer application later this spring.

Altogether 610 applications to the new English-language Aalto Bachelor’s Programme in Science and Technology were received. The programme includes two separate study options: Data Science and Digital Systems and Design. 72 percent of applicants were citizens of countries outside the EU and EEA. 22 percent of the applicants were Finnish nationals. In total, applications were received from 82 countries.

Starting from 2017, tuition fees have been applied to non-EU/EEA students for studies leading to a bachelor’s or a master’s degree. The tuition fee is €15 000 per year for Aalto’s master’s programmes and €12 000 per year for the bachelor’s programmes taught in English. Students liable to pay tuition fees may, if desired, apply for an 911±¬ÁÏÍø scholarship.

This year there were 78 different study options to choose from, in the fields of business and economics, art and design, and science and technology. The majority of Aalto’s master’s programmes are taught in English.

This  application round was for the English-language bachelor’s programmes as well as for two-year master’s programmes based on a completed bachelor’s degree or equivalent studies. The students admitted to bachelor’s programmes also receive a direct study right for a master’s degree. The application period for Finnish- and Swedish-language bachelor’s programmes is from 4 to 28 March 2018.

The results for the master’s admissions will be published on 6 April 2018 and for the English-language bachelor’s programmes on 28 June 2018 at the latest.
