Fairspectrum wins Collaborative Spectrum Sharing Prize
Fairspectrum, a leading provider of dynamic spectrum management services, has received the Collaborative Spectrum Sharing Prize of 500 000 鈧. The prize is one of the first two Horizon Prizes to be awarded. The Horizon Prizes promote out of the box thinking and entrepreneurship, bringing fresh ideas to complex societal or technological issues.
The Collaborative spectrum sharing prize was looking for innovative ideas that would enable a significant increase in spectrum sharing and re-use, beyond the currently applicable spectrum sharing methods and centralized techniques. The prize was awarded to the application DISTRIBUTE, for its highly novel approach that 鈥渇rees-up鈥 the infrastructure and functions supporting spectrum sharing. It also improves spectral efficiency dramatically.
Professor of Signal Processing Risto Wichman (in the picture) from the School of Electrical Engineering is one of the founders of Fairspectrum and his Ph.D. student Jaakko Ojaniemi works for the company.
The award was presented to Dr. Oliver Holland, King's College of London, in the Second Global 5G Event in Rome on 9 November 2016.
