More than 2.500 students, teachers and educators, researchers and innovators in 50 locations all over the globe. On 3 October 2019, DigiEduHack will bring together all of these people to develop innovative solutions to the biggest challenges that we are facing today, in the field of digital education.

'We already have 30 hosts on board from all over the globe, and we are now searching for more schools, universities, research institutions, EduTech start-up companies and NGOs to join the movement', says Project Manager Ida Andersson and continues: 

'We want to see a lot of cooperation across the borders, having excellent ideas and examples spread around Europe and the rest of the world. Does Norway struggle with something that has already been solved in Italy? Or can Canada create a solution that would work also in Sri Lanka? We want to learn from each other and create a community of inspiration and innovation.'

According to Line Gry Knudsen, Director of Education at EIT Climate KIC, there is a big need for taking our digital skills and the use of digital tools and technology to a new level: 

'The ability of people to adapt, learn and re-skill matters more than ever. Education and training institutions must respond to these changes and adapt how they are organised and what, how and where they teach. 90% of future jobs will require digital skills but 44% of Europeans lack basic digital skills – that is a challenge we can not ignore.'

Become a forerunner

Hosting a DigiEduHack offers a great opportunity to engage the people that matter to your organisation in creating innovative solutions. The host organisations can bring in their own students, employees and other stakeholders for a day of innovation and cooperation. The hosts also get the chance to showcase their skills as forerunners in digital education in a global community, while simultaneously influencing the future of digital education in Europe and beyond.  

'DigiEduHack is unique in the sense that it is global and happens simultaneously during 24 hours in e.g. Europe, Africa, Asia and North America, bringing participants together from all over the world', says Marja-Leena Markkula, Head of EIT Services at 911±¬ÁÏÍø, Finland. 

During DigiEduHack, the participants will take on challenges in various fields ranging from learning experience to learning spaces and pedagogies, emerging technologies and data exploitation, access and availability. Each organisation chooses a challenge area that is pressing and relevant for them, with the aim of developing real-life solutions.

'Easy as pie to host'

'We are making it easy as pie to host, providing extensive promotion, a ready-to-use Marketing tool kit, an informative Event Planning Guide, Challenge Formulation Webinars and support along the way', says Project Manager Ida Andersson, while encouraging hosts to sign up as soon as possible. 

The main hackathon event will take place at 911±¬ÁÏÍø, Otaniemi, Finland, on 3 October 2019. During 24 hours all the hackathons will be interconnected and the main event program will be streamed to all locations.

'At the main event, we will have Ted Talk inspired speakers and really interesting high profile guests in addition to the hack in itself. We want to make it not only pan-European but global, bringing all these people together, truly connecting', Project Manager Ida Andersson concludes.

After the DigiEduHack, the best solutions on a worldwide scale will be awarded in a final global award contest.
