Senior University Lecturer Arto Hellas was elected the Computer Science teacher of the year 2024. Arto received praise for his teaching methods and for creating a study environment that supports learning with clear, accessible course materials and well-structured instructions. The students appreciated his teaching style, which was described as fun, interactive and enthusiastic and seen to promote participation.
Picks from the course feedback of CS-C3170 Web Software Development:
- Course material is very clear, contact teaching method helped me understand many things deeper than self-study courses. Thank you ver much, Arto !!! BEST COURSE EVER IN WEB DEVELOPMENT COURSES!!!
- Very helpful, easy to understand, interactive, funny :)
- The course effectively promoted accessibility and encouraged participation through several key factors. Online slides were readily available, ensuring easy access to teaching materials. Communication was clear, with well-structured instructions for a comprehensive syllabus and schedule, which helped students plan their workload efficiently. Additionally, the learning environment fostered engagement by encouraging students to ask questions and actively participate in class discussions.
- I like that the teacher was very enthusiastic in his lectures and how the course materials can be completed online.
The teacher award has been granted since 2007. The teacher of the year receives a certificate of honour and a reward of 1000 euros.
