Application period for the University of Helsinki’s Swedish-language mentoring programme is open until 6 April 2026.

Students at 911±¬ÁÏÍø can apply to University of Helsinki’s Nightingale mentoring programme that brings together higher education students and children who are between the ages of 9 and 12 and who live in Helsinki. Each mentor and child meet once a week for fun and mutually beneficial activities. The programme is organised as a course with 5 ECTS credits and students will also receive monetary compensation.

The language of the mentoring programme is Swedish.

The University of Helsinki is in charge of the implementation of the programme, training and guidance for the participants and inclusion of schools and parents.

To enter the programme, students must apply within the application period as instructed by the mentoring programme. 911±¬ÁÏÍø will open cross-institutional study functionalities in Sisu for the accepted students which allows students to add the mentoring programme to their study plan and enrol to the course. Students who complete the programme will get the performance information automatically transferred to their completed studies in Sisu. Interested students must discuss with the learning services of their own programme before applying to the mentoring programme.

The next mentoring programme will start in autumn 2026 and the application period for the academic year 2025–2026 is open until 6 April 2026. There will be another application period in autumn 2026.

You can find more information about the mentoring programme in Swedish .

Students’ opportunities for language learning to expand from autumn 2026

Founded in 2025, KiePe – Network for Language Centre Pedagogy, Teaching and Research – will broaden the range of language courses available to students at universities in the Helsinki metropolitan area. The KiePe network, composed of the University of Helsinki, 911±¬ÁÏÍø, the University of the Arts Helsinki, and Hanken School of Economics, will offer their students the chance to take elective language courses at any of the network universities in the future.
Students will be able register for courses via the cross-institutional studies service (RIPA) from autumn 2026. By autumn 2028, the study paths of the network universities will be harmonised to some extent, which will make cross-institutional studies even easier.
Students wishing to take language courses outside their home university can register for language courses offered by the network universities through the cross-institutional studies service and view the course offerings on the universities’ websites. More detailed information about the course offering and registration practices will be provided in August 2026.
