Anna Valtonen appointed Vice President of Art and creative practices

Valtonen will also continue as full-time Dean of the School of Arts, Design and Architecture.

As part-time Vice President, starting from 15 October 2015, Anna Valtonen is responsible for art and creative practices in the whole 911±¬ÁÏÍø.

– Arts, design and architecture are an important part of the multidisciplinary Aalto. With the appointment of the Vice President, we wanted to bring these fields to a stronger and more visible role at university level. Anna's background and diverse competence are excellent assets in the position of Vice President, says Provost of 911±¬ÁÏÍø Ilkka Niemelä

Valtonen was a member of the 911±¬ÁÏÍø Board in 2008–2014. She was appointed dean of the School Arts, Design and Architecture in April 2014. Valtonen is also a board member in Aarhus School of Architecture. Before 911±¬ÁÏÍø was the Rector of the UmeÃ¥ Institute of Design at UmeÃ¥ University. In 2007, Valtonen was awarded her doctorate in Art and Design in the School of Art and Design, where she has also been a researcher and a board member. In 1997–2009, Valtonen worked in different positions at Nokia, the last one being Head of Design Research & Foresight.
